Hello

I am Deborah Miller, founder, farmer and florist of Fly Creek Flowers.

The photo here is of me and my tired teacher face.   Behind me is an astonishingly tall dahlia...

My Story

Fly Creek Flowers sprouted during my last year as a teacher of mathematics in Cooperstown, NY.  I had been gardening and teaching for over 31 years, the last of which during the pandemic.  My colleagues and I had made it through the toughest of teaching times by Fall 2021, but were still feeling overwhelmed as we returned to the classroom that September.  I felt a deep desire to help in some way so I began to bring in fresh bouquets of dahlias that were in full bloom in my back yard garden.  At the very least, the flower display made me feel a bit better any time I walked down the hall and spied them at the front desk. Gradually, it became clear that my petal prescription was helping others in the building as well. By the time I rounded the corner in March for my final stretch of teaching, the idea of growing specialty cut flowers to create heart warming bouquets took root.  With a few packet of seeds, soil, and lights I started Fly Creek Flowers LLC in my dining room

I strive to cultivate not just flowers and botanical elements for arrangements, but to also provide habitat for native insects, birds and other wildlife.

Thank you for joining me on this beautiful adventure!
